Miraculous picture of the Virgin of "AXION ESTIN"

In the area of Karyes, and in a location owned by JM Pantoktatoros, there was a large pit where inside there were various Cells

In one of them, in which the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is honored, lived an Elder Hieromonk together with his submissive.

According to the prevailing custom, a vigil was held every Saturday to Sunday in Karyes in the temple of Protatos, in which all the Kellian monks participated.

So, leaving the Elder in order to go to Protato, he tells his submissive.

So it happened.

During the night, the submissive heard someone knocking on the door of the Cell, and opening it, a young monk unknown to him appeared in front of him, who asked him to come in to spend the night, which happened.

At the time of Orthros, they got up and both began to chant the sequence. When it came time to sing "The Most Honorable of Cherubim… ..", the submissive monk sang the hymn as usual.

However, the foreign monk, turning to the image of the Virgin Mary and with a very sweet and melodic voice, chanted a new beginning as follows:

"It is worthwhile to truly bless the Virgin Mary, the Blessed and Blessed One and Mother of our God", and he continued with "The Most Honorable of the Cherubim and incomparably more glorious of the Seraphim, the incorruptible God the Word, the Great One, were born.

When the Monk of Kellio heard the new hymn, which was heard for the first time, since no Monk before him had delivered it to them in writing but had never heard it, he politely asked him to write it somewhere, so that they too could sing it to him. Our Lady.

The foreign monk gladly responded, and asked for paper and ink. But there was no suitable material in Kelly to write his hymn.

Then he asked him to bring him a stone slab, on which he began to carve the hymn with his finger, as if the slab were made of malleable clay.

After they sang the hymn engraved on the plate once more, the foreign monk said to the submissive.

From now on, you monks and all Orthodox Christians will sing this hymn to the Eternal Virgin Mary.

After that the Monk became invisible from the eyes of the submissive Monk.

The missing monk was an Angel of the Lord, and probably the Archangel Gabriel, who revealed this Angelic hymn to the people.

At the end of Protatos' vigil, the Elder returned to his Kelly, and heard the submissive narrate the incident to him, sing the hymn and show him the Angel-engraved plate.

After they both took the stone plaque with the hymn, they carried it to Karyes and showed it to the other Elders who with their holy vestments and with candles and incense went to Kelly and took the image of Our Lady of "Axion Estin", before which this Archangelic hymn is sung, they carried it and placed it inside the Holy Step in the Sanctuary of the temple of Protatos.

The plaque on which the anthem was engraved was sent to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The incident took place during the reign of King Basil and Constantine of Porphyrogenitus in the year 980 and during the Patriarchate of Nicholas of Chrysovergos.

The event is celebrated every year on June 11 "On this day the Synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel in the pit of Aden". It survives to this day in the place called "Pit of Aden" the Kelly in which the miracle happened.

This Miraculous icon remains in the Sanctuary of the Temple of Protatos and is liturgized every Monday of Diakainisimos around the Cells of Karyes.
