The Prophet Elijah 900 BC

The first great point, given by the prophet Elijah, was that he prayed and did not rain for three and a half years.

During this time the Prophet κhe was hiding in a cave in a torrent across the Jordan. There was some water there and a crow was feeding him every morning.

When the water dried up, he left the Prophet and he went to Zarephath, which belonged to Sidon, at the command of God. There he was hosted by a widow, who had a little flour and a little oil, but they ate all the time and did not miss it.

The widow had a child and happened to get sick and die. Then the Prophet prayed and raised the child.

The second great point, pointed out by the Prophet Elijah, was that he prayed and fire came from heaven.

By order of King Ahab, four hundred false pagans were gathered, and Jezebel protected them. Then the prophet Elijah challenged them to a contest.

And he said unto him, They have set the wood and the carcase on the altar for a sacrifice; and they ran about, and shouted all day long unto the false god Baal, that he should kindle a fire;

Then the Prophet told them Do it! Now I will make my sacrifice. He made his own altar, put and watered the wood three times with water and then prayed.

Then fire fell from heaven and overturned and burned the whole altar.

After this point, the people caught the four hundred false priests and the prophet Elijah severely punished them. Jezebel, in a rage, chased the Prophet and he went up to Horeb, where five hundred years ago Moses heard the voice of God and saw the bush burning and not burning.

There the prophet Elijah was hiding in a cave and God taught him a great lesson. She said to him, “Go up to the top, and you will see God.

Strong wind will pass; there will be an earthquake; you will see fire and a light and cool breeze will pass. "God will be neither in the storm nor in the earthquake nor in the fire, but in the light breeze".

Other miraculous signs of the porter Elijah were that he crossed the Jordan River with his mill and finally that instead of dying he was taken up by a chariot of fire to heaven.

It should be noted that the prophet Elijah, eight or ten years after his ascension, sent letters (perhaps through an angel) to King Joram, predicting his death because he had departed from the worship of the true God: καὶ ἦλθεν αὐτῷ ἐν γραφῇ παρὰ ᾿Ηλιοὺ τοῦ προφήτου λέγων τάδε λέγει Κύριος Θεὸς Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρός σου · ἀνθ 'ὧν οὐκ ἐπορεύθης ἐν ὁδῷ ωωσαφὰτ τοῦ πατρός σου καὶ ἐν ὁδοῖς ὰΑσὰ βασιλέως ᾿ούδα

The book Σοφία Σειράχ states that: «ΚΑΙ ἀνέστη ᾿ Ηλίας προφήτης ὡς πῦρ, καὶ ὁ λόγος αὐτοῦ ὡς λαμπὰς ἐκαίετο…. ὡς ἐδοξάσθης, ᾿Ηλία, ἐν τοῖς θαυμασίοις σου καὶ τίς ὅμοιός σοι καυχᾶσθαι;

ὁ ἐγείρας νεκρὸν ἐκ θανάτου καὶ ἐξ ᾅδου ἐν λόγῳ ἐψίστου ὁ καταγαγὼν βασιλεῖς εἰς ἀπώλειαν καὶ δεδοξασμένους ἀπὸ κλίνης αὐτῶν ὁ ἀκούων ἐν Σινᾷ ἐλεγμὸν καὶ ἐν Χωρὴβ κρίματα ἐκδικήσεως βασι

ὁ ἀναληφθεὶς ἐν λαίλαπι πυρὸς ἐν ἅρματι ἵππων πυρίνων…. μακάριοι οἱ ἰδόντες σε καὶ οἱ ἐν ἀγαπήσει κεκοσμημένοι, καὶ γὰρ ἡμεῖς ζωῇ ζησόμεθα.

The prophet Elijah lived in 9 BC. century and was the son of Shobak and came from Thesvi (hence the name Thesbite), today's El Istib, of the region of Gilead and belonged to the tribe of Aaron.

When he was born, his father saw a divine apparition: Two men dressed in white named him Elijah, they burned him with fire and gave him a flame to eat.

Then his father went to Jerusalem, and after describing the apparition to the priests, they told him, interpreting the apparition, that his son would become a prophet and judge Israel with a double-edged sword and fire.

The Prophet Elijah practiced his prophetic gift for 25 years during the reign of King Ahab, who reigned from 873 to 854 BC.

Ahab and even Jezebel's wife were ungodly men, and the prophet Elijah fought against them.

Jezebel, who was not an Israelite and was the cause of the falsification of the faith by pagan customs, so she persecuted the prophet Elijah a lot, so he was constantly forced to leave and hide.

Jezebel chased the prophet Elijah, like Herodias chased John the Forerunner.
