Saint Artemios the Great Martyr, the memory of October 20 is honored
Saint Artemios the Great Martyr: Great Feast of Orthodoxy October 20
He was endowed with unwavering courage in order to defend and protect the oppressed and oppressed Christians.
The Saint was an eyewitness of his appearance Holy Cross with the exhortation "nevertheless victory" to Constantine the Great, a fact that further strengthened his faith in Christ.
However, what particularly sealed the life of Saint Artemios was his courageous resistance to Julian on Friday, a fact that led to his martyrdom.
According to the martyrdom of Saint Artemios, which was written by Symeon the Translator, Saint Artemios is a martyr of the Orthodox Church.
He lived in the 4th century as a soldier and official of the Byzantine state and martyred in Antioch.
Probably the man who transported the relics of Saints Andrew, Luke and Timothy in Constantinople.
Saint Artemios was a soldier in the years of Constantine the Great.
For his virtue and other abilities, the first Christian emperor promoted him to the highest state positions in 330 AD.
Artemios was already Augustus, that is, little Augustus, and king of Alexandria and Egypt for this and in the hagiography he is depicted mainly in the uniform of a Roman general.
When, in 363 AD, the Artemis heard that Julian the Transgressor was torturing the Christians in Antioch, the words of the psalmist David to God came to his lips:
"Lord, support me spiritually" (Psalm N '(50), p. 14). Lord, support me with steadfast thoughts and a strong will that will prevail within me and guide me in defending the good with courage.
Indeed, Artemios, with the power given to him by God, immediately went to Antioch and openly checked Julian directly for his illegalities against the Christians.
Julian, who did not expect such an attitude from an official, arrested him and flogged him mercilessly. Then he broke his bones with stones, and finally beheaded him.
The holy relic of Artemios was received by a deaconess, Aristi, who transported it to Constantinople, to the temple of the prophet Prodromos.
