The Deesis icon shows Christ, seated on a throne, surrounded by the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist, who are praying for the salvation of people.

The "Deesis" is considered by experts to be the most beautiful mosaic of Hagia Sophia, which Erdogan converted into a mosque. It depicts Christ, the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist.

The letters on the image are crystal clear Greek (MR-THY, ΙC-ΧC, O AGIOS IO. O PRODROMOS).

The iconography was created when the Latin rule ended in Constantinople in 1261 and the restoration of orthodox worship took place.

The Latinocracy lasted 57 years. On August 15, 1261, Michael VIII Paleologos, crowned emperor, entered on foot through the Golden Gate of Hagia Sophia.

The city had fallen to the Pope's crusaders on Tuesday, April 13, 1204.

The representatives of the Christian West (the same then and now) did such disasters that the barbarian Slavs, Bulgarians, Persians, Avars did not besiege them...

For three days and nights they destroyed, burned, plundered, raped women, slaughtered civilians and armed men, women and children, priests and laity.

They looted churches and the Hagia Sophia, which they stripped of everything gold, silver or adorned with precious stones. They scattered holy relics, trampled on images.

The Holy Altar was destroyed with axes as well as the Holy Pulpit.

Thousands of books, manuscripts, relics and utensils were trashed or burned or sold or transferred to the Papal libraries as well as works of art such as the horses of the City that adorn the entrance to St. Mark's Church in Venice.

Our Ministry of Culture and "civilized" University professors do not talk about them.

In Western churches alienated from their place such as many ancient statues and the "Holy Shroud", pieces of the Holy Cross, parts of the crown of thorns and holy relics of saints...

And all this and much more, 249 years since the fall of the city with the fall of the Byzantine Empire on Tuesday, May 29, 1453...

And 617 years since the Greek Revolution of 1821 when the Turks enslaved the Greek for 400 years...

Today, 200 years later, today's Greek is called to remember again and address a "new Compulsion" to Christ...

And maybe he should rethink a "new Friendly Company" since everything is more or less similar in some respects... After all, Greek insurers of Odessa testified a lot about the Friendly Company and the uprising of '21.

Deisis is a word that comes from the verb deo = to tie, that is, I am bound, attached to what I need, deoiam = I have need, I am deprived of something and I ask for it through begging, I ask for what is necessary, what I lack, I lack, I am deprived.

For years, the Virgin Mary has been hearing "shut up, Mrs. Despina, don't cry, don't shed a tear; Fight with me time after time, fight they are yours" (Fauriel-Paris 1825).

The Church of Hagia Sophia, the abode of God from the verb Naio = to dwell, a Greek word as well, is currently suffering injury and looting both as a World Cultural Heritage monument and as a point of common reference for the Greeks and the Christian world.

"Agia Sophia is our blood, one day it will be ours again" wrote Ion Dragoumis and the words bring shivers of emotion and agitation to our minds which calls us to mourn by singing the Greek folk song "Tis Agia Sophia", the Patriarch of which Gregory V was hanged by the Turks from the great uprising of the tribe and buried in Odessa by a large number of people and many important insurers.
