Saint Porphyrios Kausokalyvitis 1906 to 1991 life and Holiness.

The Saint Kausokalyvitis is porphyrios was a Greek hieromonk who lived during the 20th century (1906-1991) and became widely known for his life and work from a young age.

He was proclaimed a saintηof the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 27 November 2013

Saint Porphyrios was born on February 7, 1906 in the village of Agios Ioannis of the present Municipality of Taminea in Evia. His secular name was Evangelos Bairaktaris and from a very early age he appealed to monasticism.

Thus, at the age of 13 and having finished only the XNUMXnd Elementary School, he went to the hermitage of the Holy Trinity, the well-known "Kausokalyvia" of Mount Athos.

There he lived for the next 6 years, as a submissive to two elder monks, taking the name Nikitas.

Then, due to a serious illness, he was forced to return to Evia, where he settled in the Holy Monastery of Agios Charalambos Lefkon Evkias, in Avlonari, Evia.

At the age of 20 he met the Archbishop of Sinai Porphyry, who, recognizing in him spiritual gifts, ordained him an elder, giving him the name by which he was to become known.

In the following years, because the monastery of Agios Charalambos Lefkon became a nunnery, Fr. Porphyrios settled in the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos, in Ano Vathia of the current Municipality of Amarynthia, also in Evia.

In 1940, at the age of 34, he went to Athens, where on October 12 he was appointed Pastor of the church of Agios Gerasimos, at the Athens Polyclinic in Omonia.

On March 16, 1970, at the age of 35, he received a small pension from the Clergy Insurance Fund of Greece and resigned from the position of pastor of Agios Gerasimos.

But it continued to offer its services until 1973.

That year he left Athens to settle first in Agios Nikolaos, in Kallisia (today's Kallithea) of Penteli and after a few years in Milesi of Malakasa.

There he built the Holy Hermitage of the Transfiguration of the Savior.

He gained considerable fame and many believers visited him at his place of residence.

In November 1991 he went to his old cell, in Kausokalyvia of Mount Athos, where he slept on December 2 of the same year.

It was included in the Hagiology of the Orthodox Church, by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, at its meeting held on November 27, 2013
