Decorative talent 35 X 7 cm

Made of natural oak wood. Includes the hammer. His percussion talent is symbolic.

For the small beacon used in Orthros it symbolizes and implies what the Old Testament teaches, while for the large beacon it emphasizes its preaching. Gospel.

The percussion of the iron beacon is reminiscent of the trumpet of the angel, which will be heard with joy by the elect on the day of the Second Coming of the Lord.

At the same time, the percussion of the wooden beacon or talent is reminiscent of the percussion of the wood by Noah before the flood and so during the Holy Communions in the monasteries, the beacon symbolizes the coming of the faithful into the New Ark which is the Church of Christ, so that be saved from the flood of sin.

The image of a monk beating the talent inviting everyone in the monastery to participate in their sacred duties expresses one of the simplest but at the same time pure symbolism of the relationship that exists between man and God.

Like the bell in later times, the beacon is used to this day both for the gathering of the monks and to foretell joy or sorrow, always in an all-encompassing atmosphere of spiritual calm and devotion.

In fact, for many, it was in the past one of the first musical instruments of the Byzantine tradition, although its use is limited exclusively for religious purposes.

Although it is an idiomatic musical instrument, the beacon belongs to the category of percussion. It consists of an elongated plank or metal plate, which is thinner at the edges and has three to five holes.

For centuries now it has been rhythmically beaten in many monasteries of our country with a metal or wooden hammer, called a mallet, and used to awaken monks or gather them to perform their sacred duties.

However, depending on the percussion, the purpose of this gathering is also expressed, which in many cases, such as at funerals, has the character of grief.

According to historical sources, the beacon was in use in the parish churches of the Orthodox Church long before the introduction of bells.

In many cases they are mentioned by writers of the Byzantine era and the names hand-stamped, large-stamped and sanctified. The wooden beacon is also called talent.

Over the years, however, it became one of the most characteristic symbols of monastic life in the Holy Monasteries of Mount Athos.

Even today, both the lives of the monks in the monasteries and the activities of their thousands of visitors each year are determined by the impact of this wooden or iron slab.
