Η life of Agios Panteleimon

His mother's name was Evvouli and she was a fervent Christian. The name they gave their child was Pantoleon.

Pantoleon was very intelligent, kind, diligent, humble and meek, full of virtue, although he was not yet a baptized Christian.

When he grew up, his father handed him over to a famous physician, Euphrosynus, to teach him medical science.

In a short time Pantoleon surpassed all his peers in education, and all spoke admiringly of his character.

The emperor himself, learning of his virtue and intelligence, destined him to become a palace physician, the physician of the palaces.

At the same time, the elder priest of Nicomedia Hermolaos, enlightened by the Holy Spirit, called Pantoleon to the house where he was hiding to meet him.

After they talked for a long time, Hermolaos was moved by the virtues that adorned the young man and decided to introduce him to faith in Christ.

Thus an excellent spiritual relationship developed between them. Pantoleon visited Saint Ermolaos daily and enjoyed his Christian discourses.

An impressive event makes Pantoleon make the serious and brave decision to accept Holy Baptism, to become a Christian.

While walking on the road he met a child who was bitten by a viper and died. So he says to himself:

I will pray to Christ to resurrect this child and if indeed the child is resurrected, there is no longer any reason for me to delay my baptism, I will become a Christian, I will believe that Christ is the true God, the Savior of the world.

He thought about this and prayed fervently to the Lord. Immediately the child came to life and the snake died.

Filled with joy, Pantoleon runs to the elder Ermolaos, tells him the miracle and asks him to baptize him.

And Hermolaus, because he knew who is led to perfection, full of emotion led Pantoleon to the illumination of divine baptism.
