Psalm 21 In order that God may prevent the fire and do not harm it

At τbeing Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia this Psalm works to pity us God to reduce or not let the fire hurt people.

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why do you stand far from my salvation and from the words of my sighs?

2 My God, I cry during the day and you do not answer at night, and I do not keep silent.

3 Thou, O Holy One, dwellest among the praises of Israel.

4 Our fathers had hoped in you; they hoped, and you delivered them.

5 They cried unto thee, and were saved; they trusted in thee, and were not ashamed.

6 But I am a worm, and not a reproach to men, and an infirmity to the people.

7 Those who see me play with me, open their lips, shake their heads, and say:

8 Trust in the LORD; let him deliver him; let him deliver him; for he is pleased.

9 But you, who took me from the womb, are my hope from my mother's breasts.

10 I was cast from the womb into my mother's womb; you are my God.

11 Do not turn away from me because sorrow is near as there is no one to help.

12 Many bulls surrounded me. Strong bulls from Bashan surrounded me.

13 They have opened their mouth against me, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

14 I was poured out like water, and all my bones were dismembered, and my heart became like wax; it melted away into my bowels.

15 My strength was dried up like a tile, and my tongue stuck to my palate. And you brought me down to the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of evildoers have compassed me: they pierced my hands and my feet;

17 I can list all my bones, they look at me and observe me.

18 And they parted my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

19 But you, O Lord, do not turn away from me, my strength, hurry to my aid.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my only soul from the power of a dog.

21 Save me from the mouth of a lion, and hear me, deliver me from the horns of unicorns.

22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren in the congregation: I will praise thee.

23 Ye that fear the LORD, glorify all the seed of Jacob, glorify him, and fear him, all the seed of Israel.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, neither hid his face from him: but when he had cried unto him, he heard him.

25 My praise will begin with you in a great gathering, I will give my wishes in front of those who fear him.

26 The afflicted shall eat, and be satisfied; they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember, and shall return unto the LORD, and all the tribes of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the Lord is the kingdom, and he is the ruler of the nations.

29 All the fat of the earth shall eat and worship, and every one that boweth down to the ground shall bow before him; and no man shall be able to save his life.

30 And they shall be his servants, which shall be accounted unto the Lord as his own seed.

31 And they shall come and declare his righteousness unto a people which shall be born, because he did it.
